"Probiotics" by drken on October 22, 2009, 1:25 pm, in category General
Dentistry is now starting to develop probiotics specifically for dental health. Traditional approaches like toothbrushing focus on reducing all bacteria. Antibiotics are designed to kill bad bacterai but kill the good with them. Probiotics put so many good ones on the mouth that there is less room for the bad. Want more info, go to the products page of our web site. You'll see the link at the top when you close this page.

"Orafresh" by drken on January 22, 2009, 1:55 pm, in category Periodontics
Orafresh has opened new doors in terms of dental health for our clients. The program treats the cause of dentsl disease (oral bacteria) rather than the result. By balancing the bacteria in the mouth to favour the goods ones and eliminate the bad ones, we see healthier gums and fresher breath.

"Fresh breath" by drken on November 9, 2008, 1:48 pm, in category General
Bad breath is a sensitive issue that, quite frankly, we have chosen to ignore until recently. The reason was that I always understood bad breath to be related to periodontal disease. Some people with bad breth complaints did NOT have bleeding gums or periodontal pockets. In fact, they had immaculate mouths. I had no answers for them so it was better to not face the issue at all. Orafresh has changed our whole perspective on bad breath. We recognize breath problems now as a bacterial imbalance. W.....

"Dental video" by drken on March 26, 2008, 3:13 pm, in category General
Last month, we posted our second video on www.youtube. It explains that dental disease is an inflammatory disease more than it is a bacterial infection. This links it to other inflammatiory diseases like diabetes, cardiovascular disease and some cancers. You can watch the 9 minute video by going to www.youtube.com and entering "Ken Southward inflammation" in the search box. More important than knowing about inflammation, the video what you can do to manage it for better heatlh.

"Dental Currents" by drken on November 29, 2007, 5:08 pm, in category General
Dental Currents has now replaced The Simple Secrets to Better Health as our online client education tool. It is more concise so it will be easier to read as an e-mail. I plan to send it to everyone on our mailing list as soon as I can put it on video as well.

"Porcelain veneers" by drken on July 26, 2007, 12:28 pm, in category Restorative dentistry
This past week, we had the opportunity to place four Lumineers to transform the smile of a young woman. They looked spectacular.
Also, we had occasion to see some Lumineers that we placed a year ago. They looked like they were done yesterday.
Lumineers are porcelain veneers that require little or no preparation of your natural tooth. Beautiful and conservative at the same time. What a concept!

While we have done implants for several years, Betty, Kelly and I recently attended a seminar on new types of dental implants. If you have missing teeth or loose dentures, implants may be the right solution for you. Call Kelly for more information at 905-563-4001.

"Teeth "sweat"" by drken on March 1, 2007, 2:02 pm, in category General
Some years ago, Dr Ralph Steinman proved there is a fluid flow from the inside of a healthy tooth to the outside. This is like sweating. A sick tooth does not sweat, but instead is sucks the acid in from the surrounding bacteria. This fluid flow is dependant on the diet. A good diet promotes a healthy tooth and a highly refined diet of carbohydarates like sugar make the tooth sick. Now you know-- Dental decay starts from the inside of the tooth, not from the bacteria on the outside!.....
